Police believe a man seen fleeing the scene where a body was found in outer Melbourne could hold the key to solving the case.
The body of a 73-year-old man was found on a footpath on Browning St in Kilsyth at 9am on Wednesday. His feet were between the open gateposts of the front fence of a house.
"Investigators are currently investigating the circumstances and have information that another man was seen with the victim at the scene, prior to fleeing the area," Victoria Police said in a statement.
Homicide and uniform detectives were seen searching a nearby oval for a possible weapon, while the street was cordoned off at both ends as forensic police searched for clues.
Detectives want to speak to residents or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area between 8.30am and 9.30am.
"Anyone who may have residential CCTV in those areas and anyone driving with dashcam footage in the area are urged to contact police," Victoria Police said.
